The Federation of the German Republic, as IORA dialogue partner, organizes, in collaboration with the IORA itself, a workshop on Maritime Security Cooperation which will be held in webinar format from 24 to 28 July. This seminar builds on previous successful discussions held at the Third Meeting of the IORA Working Group on Maritime Safety and Security (WGMSS) and Maritime Security Cooperation Seminar, 20-23 March 2023 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

This seminar will address the second pillar of the WGMSS, namely maritime safety. The organization of the meeting is by the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law (MPFPR) through a combination of pre-recorded live sessions, using the Foundation’s online LEARN platform and Zoom. Examples for discussion include the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREG), the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers ( STCW) and international and the International Convention on Maritime Navigation Search and Rescue (SAR).

Many topics on the workbench in a sector of primary interest for the States and also for other associations such as the Convention on Work in Fishing of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Convention on Maritime Labor or the International Health Regulations of the World Organization for healthcare.
