The Secretariat of the Indian Ocean Rim Association has the honour to refer regarding the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IORA and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
The Secretariat has the honour to inform Member States and Dialogue Partners that, following consultations with Member States and IRENA, a “Save the Date” is being issued for a webinar series entitled:
“Towards Ocean Energy Readiness in IORA Member States.”
As part of the implementation of the MoU and the Framework of Cooperation (FoC), the IORA Secretariat, in collaboration with IRENA and incorporating Member States’ inputs, has developed this webinar series with the following intended outcomes:
- To enhance understanding of the applications and benefits of offshore and ocean renewable energy technologies.
- To increase awareness of the barriers limiting offshore and ocean energy deployment, as well as the opportunities to accelerate their development, particularly in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
- To strengthen understanding of the needs of governments, financing institutions, and other stakeholders during the assessment and deployment phases.
- To promote greater awareness of partnership opportunities within the IORA membership.
The webinar series will contribute to the implementation of:
- Activity 1.3 (Participation in IRENA’s Collaborative Frameworks on Offshore Renewables, Project Facilitation, High Shares of Renewables, and the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative information-sharing sessions); and
- Activity 2.2 (organize joint webinars ocean-based renewable energy technologies) of the FoC between IORA and IRENA.
The series will also support the implementation of:
- The Work Plan on Blue Economy (Action B2, Strategic Goal 3 and Strategic Goal 4); and
- The IORA Agenda on Climate Change.
