As part of a fruitful partnership as IORA’s dialogue partner, Italy organized on Tuesday May, 18th, a virtual meeting to create a discussion table with the member countries of the Indian Ocean Rim.

As Undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano underlined in his congratulatory message for IORA Day last March 25th, “since the very first phases of our dialogue partnership, we have been able to count on a truly efficient team of IORA Ambassadors in Rome”: the intent of this meeting was to continue developing the dialogue partnership through this multi-stakeholder participation, involving the Embassies, with the objective to strengthen cooperation between the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean, two regions that will share a crucial role in global economic recovery.

The meeting was attended by ambassadors and officials from 16 diplomatic representations (Australia, India, Kenya, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Somalia, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Mozambique and Mauritius). The agenda of the roundtable saw the IORA National Focal Point team at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mario Vattani, who gave the floor to Luca Sabbatucci, Director-General for International Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Omar Obaid Alshamsi, UAE Ambassador to Italy, Gatot Gunawan, Acting Secretary General IORA and Laurence Martin, Secretary General of the Italy-IORA Committee
