Blue Sea Land is one of the most important international events taking place in Sicily. Organised by the District of Fishing and Blue Growth, in close collaboration with the Sicilian Region, the City of Mazara del Vallo and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The event takes place inside the Casbah of Mazara del Vallo, a historic area famous for its Arab origin where different cultures, ethnicities and religions peacefully coexist. Attended by many international business and institutional delegations, Blue Sea Land aims to enhance the resources of the agro-fish-food and energy supply chains, their excellence and territories, the economy of dialogue and cooperation between peoples. 

The topics addressed at the 2019 Blue Sea Land event – water, territory, fight against food waste, circular economy, green and blue economy – are of universal interest, shared by many participants coming to the Blue Sea Land Event from Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, including IORA partners.

IORA Director Gatot Gunawan was present, together with the Principal Secretary for Fisheries of Kenya, Japeth Ntiba and many Ambassadors from important IORA countries. 

Representatives from the United Arab Emirates, who will be chairing the organization for the next two years, introduced the opportunity of making the most of EXPO Dubai 2020. The headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) are also based in the Emirates, 2020 will be a precious occasion for Italy-IORA partnership to promote a dialogue on issues related to the environment, blue economy and sustainable growth between the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean.
