The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) presents the 3rd Seminar on “Developing the IORA Declaration on Combating Marine Debris and Strategic Framework Action on Marine Debris in the Indian Ocean” to Member States and IORA Dialogue Partners. held June 23-24, 2022 in Bali, Indonesia.

The objective of this series of seminars (the first took place virtually in December and March) is part of the implementation of the IORA Working Group’s work plan on the Blue Economy Work Plan (WGBE) to develop a strategic framework on the fight against marine debris in the Indian Ocean. In particular, the purpose of this seminar is mainly to finalize the draft of the IORA strategic action framework based on the development of the previous 1st and 2nd Workshops. The seminar will also have to identify the way forward for approval by the Committee of Senior Officials and the Council of Ministers of the IORA.

The IORA Secretariat asks Member States and Dialogue Partners to nominate at least 2 participants for the 3rd seminar, preferably experts from institutions working on fighting marine debris in their respective countries, who have previously participated in the 1st and 2nd Workshops. They will have to present the policies, regulations and actions taken by their respective countries in the fight against marine debris, as well as actively engage in group discussions to finalize the draft IORA strategic framework on combating marine debris. The nominated participants will be availed full hospitality sponsored by the IORA Dialogue Partner Germany, through GIZ. Participants from high-income Member States (Australia, France, Oman, Seychelles, Singapore, and UAE) and Dialogue Partners are welcome to participate in the 3rd Workshop at their own expenses.
