The IORA Secretariat with reference to the note verbale (MSs.2025.82) on the Technical Workshop on Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance in the IORA Region to be held from 13 to 17 October 2025 in La Réunion informs that:
The workshop will be hosted by La Réunion, Republic of France, and organised with the support of the European Union (EU), the Agence Francaise de Developpment (AFD) and the Republic of France with a number of other technical actors such as the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Response (UNDRR), Plate-forme d’intervention régionale de l’océan Indien (PIROI) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and aims to raise awareness among IORA member states on disaster risk management, with a focus on institutional capacities, legal frameworks, disaster risk response and advance funding, and early warning systems.
The workshop will include plenary sessions, presentations, round table discussions, group discussions, practical exercises and a field trip for IORA member states, while IORA dialogue partners will be invited to participate in the workshop for the last two days.
This project proposal was also deliberated at the meeting of the 3rd Working Group on Disaster Risk Management on 14 May 2025 in virtual mode.
