A new agreement has been reached between three of the most important Italian companies: Eni, Snam, and CDP (Cassa Depositi e Prestiti). This deal is important for the future of the energy sector from the perspective of decarbonization and sustainable change. The agreement is part of the broader commitment of CDP, Eni, Snam to support the achievement of the 55% reduction target of CO2 emissions by 2030 established by the European Union and the implementation of European and national strategies on hydrogen and circular economy.

The three companies, in compliance with the applicable legislation (primarily the one on unbundling), will promote possible joint initiatives, including partnerships, aimed at developing the production, transport, and marketing of green hydrogen.

The cooperation will also concern the production and use of hydrogen in rail transport, leveraging Eni’s skills in electricity and renewable energy production and Snam’s skills in infrastructure and electrolyzers, in storage and logistics solutions.

The three CEOS commented satisfied at the end of the meeting. Fabrizio Palermo, CEO of CDP said: “The joint commitment of CDP, Eni, and Snam is a source of great satisfaction for us. It is a strategic alliance, created from a system perspective, which aims at the development of innovative projects linked to the energy transition and the circular economy, capable of generating a positive impact on a socio-economic and environmental level on the whole National territory” while  Claudio Descalzi, Eni, “We will pool our respective experiences, resources, innovative technologies to create important synergies in those areas of the energy transition that represent the future, such as CO2 capture and storage, the green and blue hydrogen supply chain, renewables and products decarbonized for sustainable mobility” “The collaboration between these companies – according to Marco Alverà, CEO of Snam – will favor the development of green hydrogen in mobility and industry, helping to create a national supply chain and new opportunities for development and employment in our country”.
