As the international community faces multiple crises we, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America, and the High Representative of the European Union, renew our commitment to upholding the rule of law, humanitarian principles and international law, including the Charter of the United Nations, and to protecting human rights and dignity for all individuals.

Thus begins the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which in a note announces the results of the G7 meeting in Capri. Strengthening alliances and partnerships is one of the main objectives of the Group’s political agenda. The global challenges that will arise in recent years will have to be addressed jointly by trying to involve everyone. Many topics are on the table for multilateral discussion, including Africa, Asia and the Blue Economy, with a particular focus on marine security.

Among the various topics addressed, the following should be mentioned:

  • FOSTERING PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MEDITERRANEAN AND AFRICA (Lybia, Sahel, Horn Africa, Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Democratica Republic of Congo);
  • ADDRESSING IRREGULAR MIGRATION, FOSTERING HOPE AND OPPORTUNITY;
  • PROMOTING A FREE AND OPEN INDO-PACIFIC, MANAGING ENGAGEMENT IN ASIA (China, North Korea, Myanmar);
  • ADDRESSING GLOBAL CHALLENGES (Development Finance and Infrastructure, Food Security and Nutrition Security, Economic Resilience and Economic Security, Climate, Energy Security and Environment, Global Health, Gender Equality, Disaster and Risk Reduction, Global Governance, Conflict Prevention and Management, Support to UN Peace Operations, A Global Resilient Cyberspace, Artificial Intelligence, Countering hybrid threats, including foreign information manipulation and interference, Digital and Transnational Repression, Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, Outer Space, Countering terrorism and transnational crime, Fight against Corruption, Threats to maritime security);
  • TACKLING REGIONAL ISSUES (Western Balkans, South Caucasus, Central Asian countries, Afghanistan);
  • COOPERATION WITH LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN (Haiti, Nicaragua, Venezuela)
